THE INTRO EP. 48: Oregon's First Female Black Belt — Amanda Loewen

November 2, 2021   |   Hosted by Matt DellaValle

Amanda Loewen is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and full-time instructor at 10th Planet Portland. Not many people can say they were the first in the world to do something, but Amanda can — she's the first female to earn her black belt in the state of Oregon.

Amanda is an absolutely special coach and a fierce competitor. She owns the room with a powerful, yet calming, presence and certainly also owns the mat when she's fighting. Over the years, Amanda earned her stripes fighting some of the world’s most talented athletes. She’s currently the Submission Underground reigning female champion and is widely considered as one of the top females in all of Jiu-Jitsu.

Amanda is a force of nature, and I know you’ll enjoy this conversation. So grab a notebook, pull up a chair, and let’s learn a thing or two from Amanda.

There's a huge difference between being a good competitor and a good coach. A lot of the time, people don't cross over, but I found quickly that I love teaching beginners and seeing people succeed.
