Stop Hitting that Snooze Button

Living Better in 2023
So far this year, we’ve been talking all about habits! January is the time of year when we tend to analyze how we’re living and how we could be doing better.
Today, we’re talking about sleep and how it can impact the next morning ahead of you. Here’s the question of the day: If we all want a productive morning, WHY do we keep hitting snooze?
Let’s dive in!
The Dreaded Alarm
We all know the feeling — the alarm goes off and all you want to do is hit snooze and sleep for just a few more minutes. But those few minutes can easily turn into an hour and, before you know it, you’re running late for your workout like a teen that’s late for the bus in a ‘90s coming-of-age movie.
If you have the willpower to get out of bed, however, an early workout can set a positive tone for the rest of the day and give you a sense of accomplishment that will keep you motivated. Plus, working out in the morning has been shown to improve energy levels, focus, and overall mood throughout the day.
One Thing to Try This Week: Put Your Phone Down!
The light from your screens can disrupt sleep patterns, thus making it harder for you to fall asleep at night and causing you to feel more tired when that alarm goes off in the morning.
This week, as part of your bedtime routine, set your alarm, put your phone face down, and read a few pages from a book before going to bed (without checking your phone again). Then — here’s the kicker — don’t hit snooze in the morning. Wake up on the first ring when your alarm goes off and take on the day ahead!
